Messier-Bugatti-Dowty MRO win at Gloucester Business Awards 2011

Messier-Bugatti-Dowty MRO won the Apprentice Development Award at this year's Gloucester Business Awards.

Training Apprentices has been custom and practice within this organisation and is now fully embraced as part of their ethos and culture.   The division employs 239 people at the Staverton plant of which 15 are apprentices.   Each year between 2-4 apprentices are recuited to ensure there is a constant feed of apprentices into the organisation at the end of the four year programme.   However, having said that, completing the apprenticeship programme does not neccessarily guarantee employment within the Division.    Apprentices must compete and demonstrate why they deserve to be given the opportunity to start their career as a qualified engineering with MBD MRO.   The selection process for employment within the organisation is just as intense as the process for the apprenticeship programme itself.

Mr Paul Clifford, Managing Director was proud to inform the audience at the Business Awards, that all staff on stage including himself were ex-apprentices.   He continued to say all employees are now aware of their apprenticeship strategy and understood how important it was to the division's future.   'It is our vision that every employee has the training, capability and most importantly, time and empowerment to make improvements happen'.

The Staverton site has also recently undertaken a total reorganisation as a result of recognising the limitations of its 1940s base.   The effect of this investment in people and plant has enabled the company to reduce throughput from 12 weeks to four.   The site is also a centre of excellence for Airbus single-aisle aircraft and the maintenance, repair and overhaul of landing gear systems and regional and milatary aircraft.

Gloucestershire Training Group are proud to be the preferred Training Provider for MBD MRO and congratulate them on winning this great award in recognition of their dedication to apprentice development.
