Engineering Apprenticeships

Engineering Apprentice Training is the core business service that GTG provides.   There are two apprenticeship programmes which GTG currently offer, they are the Apprenticeship in Engineering and the Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.   Further details of each of the programmes can be found by clicking on the appropriate tab on the left hand side.

Young people attending apprenticeship training at GTG benefit from both practical skills training and classroom teaching, to give them a thorough grounding in all of the key areas required for a career in modern engineering.   Upon completion of the programme, apprentices are erady to take on skilled positions in a range of engineering disciplines.

In order to work towards an apprenticeship with GTG, all learners have to be of employed status.   Learners are encouraged to apply directly to GTG who will support them with their search for an appropriate apprenticeship sponsor.   Learners are also encouraged to apply directly to any advertisements they see in the local press or on the internet.

THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Once an application has been received by GTG, the applicants details will be logged on an internal database and once the recruitment process starts (usually around March of each year), applicants will be invited to GTG to undertake a selection assessment.   All applicants are required to undertake the selection assessment prior to commencing training.   The assessment process is a series of short assessments designed to identify the strenghts and possible areas of weakness of each applicant.   It will also help identify the most suitable pathway/skill bias of each applicant.   The assessment process takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

Shortly after the assessment process, applicants will be invited back to GTG for an informal feedback interview which consists of the following:

* Feedback of Initial Assessment Results

* Advice and guidance on the most appropriate programme and which employers are offering apprenticeship vacancies

* An explanation of the recruitment and selection process

* A tour of the building

* A brief introduction to the programmes

Upon completion of the feedback interview and approval from the applicant to circulate their details, GTG will forward each applicants assessment results and personal details onto each prospective employer.   Employers will then select and contact those from the list who they wish to take forward to the interview stage of their own internal recruitment processes.

Applicants who are unsuccessful in finding an employer by 31st August will be advised of the appropriate courses in engineering to undertake in order to enhance their chances of success should they chose to re-apply the following year.
